How ShilNepal Tests Every Batch for Purity - shilnepal purity testing

Namaste dai-bahini. I am from Namche Bazaar and now I bring our mountain resin to Australia. I write like a neighbour - simple and honest - to show you how I make sure each tin is clean, real and safe. This is how shilnepal purity testing works, from the cliff where elders collected resin to the tin on your shelf.

shilnepal purity testing - from cliff to collection

We start at the rock. In the Himalaya, collection is careful work. Trusted villagers gather only dark, resinous deposits after snow and sun warm the cliffs. I watch the collection and note location and date - small things that help trace the batch later.

After collection we do traditional cleaning - the Shodhana method passed down in our village. Shodhana is a gentle purification using water and heating steps that remove obvious impurities without stripping the resin's natural fulvic profile. Then we sun-dry on clean cloths, as our elders taught us, before sealing into small shipment tins.

Laboratory checks and common tests

Once resin reaches our processing point we run a set of tests - some done in-house by village-trained staff and some by accredited third-party labs. The list is simple but thorough:

  • Heavy metal screening - arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium.
  • Microbial testing - total plate count, yeast and mould, E. coli and Salmonella checks.
  • Moisture and loss on drying - to ensure shelf stability.
  • FTIR or HPLC fingerprinting for fulvic and humic acid patterns - a quick check for authenticity.
  • Visual and solubility checks - colour, texture, and how it dissolves in warm water are quick village tests we still value.

We send every batch sample to an accredited external lab for heavy metals and authenticity confirmation. The lab gives a certificate of analysis (COA) and we keep records for every tin, so if you ever ask I can trace where that resin came from and what tests it passed.

Why these tests matter - simple reasons

To me, testing is about respect. Respect for the mountain, for our elders' medicine, and for the people who put resin on their tongue each morning. Heavy metal testing protects health. Microbial checks keep the product safe. Fingerprinting proves the resin is Himalayan - not an imitation from unknown sources.

I am open about the process. On trips back to Nepal I take fresh samples to the lab, and in Australia I keep copies of COAs. Batch traceability and record keeping

Every tin gets a batch number and a date. We store a sample from each batch for months, sometimes years, so we can retest if a customer asks. Records include collection location, drying dates, the Shodhana steps, lab COAs and who packed the tins. This human chain is my promise - you can ask and we can show.

Simple checks you can do at home

Before you use a tin, you can do small checks:

  • Smell - natural earthy, not chemical.
  • Texture - soft and sticky at room temperature, not brittle plastic.
  • Dissolves - a small grain should dissolve in warm water, leaving a dark tea.

These are not replacements for lab tests, but they help you recognise real resin.

Frequently asked questions

1. What does shilnepal purity testing include?

We test for heavy metals, microbes, moisture and authenticity fingerprinting. Each batch gets a COA from an accredited lab so you know it passed safety checks.

2. Are tests done in Nepal or Australia?

Both. Initial cleaning and in-house checks happen in Nepal with village-trained staff. Heavy metal and advanced authenticity tests are done by third-party labs we trust, sometimes in Nepal and sometimes in Australia depending on the test.

3. Can I see the certificate of analysis?

Yes. We keep COAs for each batch and share them when asked. This is part of the traceability we promised from Namche Bazaar to your home.

4. How often do you test a single batch?

Every batch is sampled and tested once before packaging. If there is any customer concern later, we retest stored samples from that batch.
